Hello Team,
I hope that this newsletter finds you safe and healthy, and that each of you had a Happy and Blessed Easter holiday and an enjoyable, albeit different, Spring Break.
The month of April brings us into compassion. If ever there was a time to be compassionate, the time is now. The definition for compassion states, "to look beyond yourself to care for, comfort and empower others." Compassion starts first at home which tells me that you must care for those who you see every day. Is there anything that you can do for them before they ask you to do it? How can you help make their life a little easier? Next, support your community, colleagues, and students. This is definitely a time to check-in on one another!
As you know, we are moving into remote learning and making those connections with our students and their families is at the top of the list. Phone calls, emails, social media and even letters in the mail is what will get us through these tough times. Showing compassion to others helps us and makes us better.
Making connections!
- It is necessary for you to connect with your students weekly.
- Consider a "student of the week" or doing a contest to increase engagement with your students.
- Consider creating your own Class Dojo where you can give students points for doing their work. Give them a shout out so that other students will see. Shout out to their parents as well!
- Please start logging your contacts as in the day, time and what was discussed. We will discuss this more.
- Para's will need to contact their individual students.
Remote Learning 2.0
- Remote Learning is all about access, consistency, simplicity, and accountability.
- Home learning packets have been mailed to families.
- You should have an icon on your MyNHA page that says HL for Home Learning.
- Will not be using this until April 20th!
- We will discuss in our 03's and PLC's.
- Don't worry! We got this!
Teacher Evaluations
The Positive Impact on Student Learning indicator will be removed from the evaluation for all teachers since students didn’t have a full year to demonstrate growth. Instead, Professional Accountabilities will account for 50% of the overall evaluation score, and the remaining 50% will be based on the Classroom Framework for teachers, The goal setting portion of the evaluation required for Michigan teachers will be removed.
How will the overall evaluation score be calculated this year? The overall evaluation score will be equally weighted between Professional Accountabilities and the Classroom Framework for teachers. Evaluations will be due May 8th as "Ready to Meet" status and will be delivered at an O3.
Even though we are still completing evaluations this year, they are only for internal purposes. We will not be reporting any performance ratings externally to states who typically require it.
Signing of your evaluation:
- If you are able to print a copy of your evaluation, sign it, and scan a copy to me via email. If you can’t scan it, simply take a photo of the signature page and email or text it to me. If you are not able to print a copy of their evaluation, send me an email stating that the email is in lieu of signing the evaluation. We will work it out.
